The girls had a long day and performed tremendously well to qualify for the National Prep Schools Finals in Birmingham on Monday 4th July.
Four Year 9 girls, Ella Bubb, Evie Freer, Leah Nicholls and Juliet Webber, competed in the Rotary International Technology Tournament on Friday 17th June. They were faced with the challenge of building a bridge to meet strict specifications to allow traffic to pass over, a boat to pass under and a ship to pass through. Against 9 teams from other schools in the area, the girls triumphed and brought back the trophy; Farlington also won last year. Well done girls!
On Wednesday 4th May the U13 rounders team played Christ’s Hospital. Farlington opted to field first to assess their opposition. Christ’s Hospital had some excellent batters, sending the ball deep into the Farlinton field. A couple of communication errors led to full rounders being scored where they might have otherwise stopped the batters at 2nd or 3rd post. Farlington scored some good half rounders during their 1st batting innings, however the CH field was tight with very few errors. At this point the score was 6 – 3 1/2 to CH. In the second innings, Christ’s Hospital continued to make good connections with the ball, and despite the Farlington field being tighter this time around, some balls were hit so far out they were difficult to deal with. This meant Farlington had 10 rounders to make up to push past CH, a risky strategy was put in place, however CH continued to be tight in their field and didn’t let the risk taking distract them. The final score was 13-6 to CH.
The U14 rounders team fielded a strong side. We fielded tightly and kept the score low for CH. When we came into bat we managed to place the ball well and score successfully. Lily Heron and Freya Millis both took some excellent catches and there were some excellent batting performances from all.
22 – 61/12. Well done to all who played.
